About Antwerp

Antwerp is one of Flanders' top student cities, home to the University of Antwerp, AP Hogeschool and Karel de Grote, with a creative, low-key, port-city energy.

  • 🎨A creative port cityFashion, diamonds and design run deep here, and the Royal Academy still draws artists from all over the world.
  • 🍺Beer culture is realA Bolleke at a brown cafe is basically a rite of passage, and De Koninck brewery is right in town.
  • 🚲Flat, compact and walkableMost of the centre is bike and tram friendly, so you rarely need to spend much getting around.

Antwerp is more affordable than Brussels or Amsterdam, but rooms still go fast before semester, so start early. Most students rent a kot, a furnished student room, in a shared house or a residence. The average room with shared facilities is around €455 a month, a studio with private bathroom around €570, with utilities of €40 to €80 on top. Always sign a proper lease and register your address at the city district office.
