About Brisbane

Brisbane is one of Australia's friendliest student cities, home to the University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Griffith University, with a relaxed, sunny, outdoors-first vibe.

  • ☀️Sunshine and the outdoorsWarm most of the year, so weekends mean Streets Beach, river ferries and bushwalks up Mount Coot-tha.
  • 🛴Cheap, easy getting aroundA flat 50 cent fare gets you anywhere on bus, train, tram or CityCat ferry, and shared scooters fill the gaps.
  • 🎸Live music capitalFortitude Valley packs more bars and gig venues per block than anywhere else in the country.

Brisbane is more affordable than Sydney or Melbourne, but the rental market is still tight, so start your search early. Most students rent a room in a share house or a spot in a purpose-built student residence. A single room in a St Lucia or Toowong share house runs around A$200 to A$280 a week, while a studio is closer to A$350 to A$450. Always view a place, or get someone you trust to view it, before you pay anything.
