Helsinki is one of the Nordics' top student cities, home to the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics and a buzzing community of around 70,000 students.

  • 🇬🇧English gets you farAlmost everyone speaks English and most master's programmes are taught in it, so you settle in fast.

Helsinki rooms are scarce, so apply early and lean on the student housing foundation HOAS, which offers furnished rooms in shared flats from around €450 to €600 a month with internet, sauna and laundry included. Private rooms in shared flats run higher, especially in Kallio and the centre, so most students take a HOAS spot or split a flat with friends. Always sign a proper contract and register your address once you arrive.
