About Perth

Perth is one of Australia's friendliest student cities, home to the University of Western Australia (UWA), Curtin University, Edith Cowan University (ECU), Murdoch University and Notre Dame, with a laid-back, beach-and-river lifestyle.

  • ☀️Sunshine and beachesOne of the sunniest big cities going, with Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches a quick train and bus away.
  • 🚆Free transport in the centreThe CAT buses loop the CBD for nothing, and Sundays are free across the whole Transperth network on a SmartRider.
  • 🏖️Outdoors is the defaultWeekends mean Kings Park picnics, Swan River swims and road trips to Rottnest or the Margaret River.

Perth's rental market is tight, with vacancy rates well below 1% through 2025, so start your search early and be ready to move fast. Most students rent a room in a shared house or a spot in purpose-built student accommodation. A room in a share house runs about A$200 to A$280 a week, and a studio nearer A$480, so expect rent to eat a big chunk of your budget. Inspect in person where you can, and always get a written lease.
