About Riga

Riga is the Baltics' liveliest student city, home to the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University and Riga Stradiņš University, with a friendly, international and surprisingly affordable vibe.

  • 💶Easy on the walletOne of the cheapest EU capitals for students, so rent, beer and a night out all cost a fraction of Western Europe.
  • 🏛️Art Nouveau everywhereThe Centrs has the densest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in the world, and you walk past it every day.
  • 🌊River, sea and forestThe Daugava runs through town, Mežaparks lakes sit on the edge, and the Jūrmala beach is half an hour by train.

Riga is one of the most affordable EU capitals for students, with a room in a shared flat averaging around €300 a month and central studios from roughly €450. Most students rent a private room or share a flat in the Centrs, Āgenskalns or Teika rather than relying on dorms, which are limited. Watch out for winter heating bills, which can add €50 to €150 to your rent, so always ask whether utilities (komunālie) are included before you sign.
