About Seoul

Seoul is Asia's ultimate student city, home to Seoul National University, the famous SKY trio of Korea University and Yonsei, plus Hongik, Hanyang, Ewha and dozens more, all wired into a buzzing, late night youth culture.

  • 🚇The subway is unrealClean, cheap and on time across more than 20 lines, so you genuinely never need a car here.
  • 🌃It never sleepsHongdae, Gangnam and Itaewon keep going past dawn, and study cafes, BBQ and karaoke run all night too.
  • 💸Watch the depositRent is reasonable but Korean leases ask for a big upfront jeonse or wolse deposit, so plan that early.

Seoul housing is reasonable to rent but the upfront money is the shock. Most students take a small one room officetel or a goshiwon study room, with rooms around ₩600,000 a month. The catch is the deposit. Korean wolse leases want a lump sum of a few million won up front, and jeonse leases ask for a huge deposit instead of rent. University dorms are the cheapest, easiest first option, so apply early. Always register your lease and address after you move in.
