Shanghai housing splits two ways. University dorms are cheap and social at around ¥1,200 to ¥2,000 a month, while a room in a shared flat near campus sits around ¥2,500. The Former French Concession is gorgeous but pricey, so most students lean towards Yangpu and Hongkou for lower rents and easy metro access. Start early, view in person, and remember almost everything is paid and managed through your phone, deposits included.
