About Taipei

Taipei is Asia's friendliest student city, home to National Taiwan University (NTU), National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and Taiwan Tech (NTUST), with a buzzing, late night, night market vibe.

  • 🍜Cheap eats everywhereNight markets and lane cafes mean a filling meal for NT$60 to NT$120, so your food budget goes a very long way.
  • 🚇The MRT is unrealSpotless, cheap and runs late, so most students never need a car and many skip a scooter too.
  • 🌙It never really sleepsBubble tea at 2am, 24 hour bookshops and night markets till late mean study breaks are always sorted.

Taipei is one of the more affordable big student cities in Asia, and rooms are easier to find than in Europe, but the best ones near campus still go fast. Most students rent a private room in a shared flat (a tao fang), with the cheapest spots around NT$8,000 to NT$12,000 a month and city centre studios pushing NT$20,000 plus. Start your search a month or two ahead, view in person where you can, and budget for a one to two month deposit on top of the first month's rent.
