About Vienna

Vienna is one of Europe's biggest student capitals, home to the University of Vienna, TU Wien, WU and the Medical University of Vienna, with a calm, cultured but social vibe.

  • Cafe culture is the campusHalf your study and friend time happens in old kaffeehauser, one melange buys you a table for hours.
  • 🚇Transport that just worksThe annual pass is famously cheap and the U-Bahn, trams and night buses get you everywhere without a car.
  • 🍷Wine on the city edgeVienna grows wine inside its own limits, so Heuriger taverns in Grinzing are a classic student day out.

Vienna is one of the more affordable big student capitals in Europe, helped by a huge stock of regulated and social housing, but the cheapest spots still go fast. Most students take a room in a shared flat (a WG) or a place in a student residence through OeAD or WIHAST. Budget around €450 to €600 for a room, expect to spend roughly a third of your budget on rent, and always register your address (the Meldezettel) within a few days of moving in.
